Hughie Hughes was 11years old when he earned his First Aid Certificate.  That led to a life long commitment to St Johns and serving his community – 75years in fact.  This earned him the St John’s Ultra-long Service Medal and in preparation for the award ceremony, his daughter Lorna Shaskey Hughes has started collating their family photographs which capture Hughie and his late wife Janet’s outstanding work to set up and run Ruatoria’s first ambulance and train local St Johns cadets.  Lorna and Erana took a trip down memory lane.
