The Matakaoa Covid 19 Response Group have set up a static checkpoint in Te Araroa.  Last week they lobbied the Minister of Emergency Management and the Head of the Tairawhiti Emergency Management unit, to declare a state of emergency to enable the setting up of checkpoints.  They both agreed, there was no need for a checkpoint.  But Tina Ngata from the Matakaoa Covid 19 Response group says they’re frustrated with the volume of vehicles moving around the region and the number of strangers visiting shops.  The checkpoint is needed to keep whanau safe.
