“The History of Wharekahika – Hicks Bay Revisited” 1st Print Sells Out!

50 years of collecting and collating whakapapa and local korero by author Lloyd Lawson culminated in the launch of The History of Wharekahika – Hicks Bay Revisited.

Over 100 whanau gathered at Hinemaurea marae to witness the launch of his accomplishment,

 “The History of Wharekahika – Hicks Bay revisited”.

“The people are very lucky that these histories have been recorded and written into this book, because there are a lot of people who don’t know these stories, their parents and grandparents did not hand down this knowledge to them. The money raised from sales will create a scholarship for the descendants of the 3 local kura, Tapaeururangi (Potaka), Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Kawakawa mai Tawhiti and Te Waha o Rerekohu Area School.
