Last Saturday the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai volcano erupted causing tsunamis which hit Tonga and its outlying islands, killing three people and leaving hundreds of whanau homeless. The islands of Nomuka, Mango and Fonoifua were hardest hit, with 50ft tsunami waves.  We caught up with Ngati Porou Tongan mum, Turuhira Keelan-Tamale about the current situation in Tonga and what support we in Tairawhiti can provide whanau in Tonga.
