Having a Ngati Porou whakapapa and being connected to her marae and hapu in Rangitukia and Reporua influenced Te Aomihia Walker’s decision to study marine biology. Te Aomihia, a policy analyst for Te Ohu Kaimoana is New Zealand’s and our very first ‘fellow’ to attend the UNESCO GRO Fisheries Training Programme in Iceland. The focus of the six month programme is international fisheries, particularly fisheries policy and management. Te Aomihia spoke to Erana before she heads to Iceland at the end of the week.
